Purpose and method

The purpose of the Tampere Region Growth monitor is to give a timely snapshot about the growth oriented companies and business ecosystems of the Tampere region. This is done by collecting data from different sources into a combined database. Some of the data are collected automatically through application programming interfaces and some of it collected manually. The data are visualized with Microsoft Power BI. The database is managed by The Council of Tampere region.





Project

Tampere Region Growth Monitor has been developed by the Council of Tampere region as a part of 6Aika: Ecosystems of Growth-project. The project started in 2018 and will continue until march 2021. Ecosystems of Growth is a joint project of the six largest cities in Finland: Helsinki, Espoo, Vantaa, Turku, Tampere and Oulu. The aim of the whole project is to start new innovation services and networks as well as information services in the six cities. Data sources

The data are collected from many sources, both free public and paid sources. Public data sources include Statistics Finland, Business Finland, Business Tampere and the Council of Tampere Region. Statistics Finland provides the list of growth seeking companies and growth companies. Business Finland provides an API for data about the companies that have applied for Business Finland funding. Business Finland also maintains a database about fundings granted to companies. Business Tampere has collected a list of all of the startup-companies in Tampere Region. The Council of Tampere Region collects data from startup programs as well as data about startup events. Providers of paid data sources include Vainu Finland Oy and Crunchbase. Vainu provides data about private funding, industries, locations, revenues and personnel of the companies. Crunchbase provides additional data about risk funding.

Stakeholders that have been planning and developing the tool with the Council of Tampere Region are Business Tampere, Red Brick Accelerator, Tampere Game Hub, Nordic Startup School, Media Accelerator, Ensimetri ry, University of Tampere, Tampere University of Applied Sciences, Pirkanmaan sairaanhoitopiiri, Centre for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment, Pirkanmaan TE-toimisto, the municipalities that are part of the Tampere region and the cities of Helsinki, Espoo, Vantaa, Turku and Oulu.
